Victoria peeked her head through the doorway of Zoe stall and whistled. A certain blonde who was busy slaving away at the mounds of dirty straw snapped her head up simultaneously with the big derentielle mare.
"What am I? A dog?" Alexa cast a joking glare at her aunt, who smiled back.
"You're hair certainly suggests that. Now bridle that pretty girl up and meet Kehaar and I out front in two minutes. I've got something for you" The woman smiled conspiratorially and trotted away. Alexa raised an eyebrow, wondering what surprise could elicit such a girlish reaction from her usually mature aunt.
Soon Alexa had slipped on Zoe's halter and pulled her peacoat tightly around her shoulders. As she road out of the barn into the crisp fall air, Victoria rode over, also bareback, astride the proud looking Kehaar. The nordanner stallion whinnied happily to Zoe and tossed his head up to greet her.
The sight of his newly scarred face made Alexa wince. The barely healed tissue cut a jagged half circle across his right eye. While he could still see just fine, his short career as a halter horse had come to an end. But, he seemed happy enough, so no one fretted over it too much.
"Do you wanted to tell me what this surprise is?" Alexa asked earnestly as the two set out down the path. An icy wind blew at the group head-on and Alexa shivered. 4 days ago, the temperature had dropped 30 degrees overnight and heralded the official beginning of fall. The leaves had begun their change and the SKS workers were busy sorting through the horses. Emery and Andrew could be seen out in the main pasture with two other stable hands, cutting out the horses who would spend the winter mostly in stalls and doing basic health checks. Alexa inched Zoe closer to the stallion. Kehaar's whole body glowed slightly red and he radiated heat, a result of his Heat potion. While taken to protect him on dragon hunts, it worked just as well against the frigid winds
"You'll see soon enough" Victoria grinned devilishly. Kehaar continued to whinny and snort to Zoe, who's ears were held attentively towards her talkative companion. They were curving around the outdoor arena in silence when Alexa suddenly realized what the surprise probably was.
"Is it the guest stables??? Are they furnished now?" A summer building project Victoria sanctioned was a guest stable. It would hold 14 horses and a fairly large, upstairs guest house with 5 bedrooms, a kitchen, 2 bathrooms and a large lounge space. It would be used for small summer camps and visiting stables. Apparently, Emery and Alexa would also be moving into two of the rooms.
Victoria remained silent as the guest stable came into view. Alexa couldn't be sure, but she thought she saw a something standing in the front paddock.
As they got closer, it became clear that the creature in the yard was actually a mare and foal... A bright grullo foal with a shimmering aura of frosty light surrounding her...
